Candles. Oysters. Chocolate. Wine. The Notebook. Heart pajamas.
All are things that can make for a very fun Valentine’s Day – regardless of whether it’s going to be a romantic night with someone special, or a fabulous night with your close friends watching movies and drinking wine. Goodness knows that we’ve both seen Ryan and Rachel work their magic at least 14 times. Not kidding.
You know what also makes for a festive and fun Valentine’s Day celebration? Bubbly! And given that we're less than 2 weeks away from this 'holiday', you better pick up a bottle soon.
When you hear the term ‘bubbly wine’, your mind may go immediately to Champagne. Historically, Champagne has been the pinnacle of bubbly or sparkling wine, and for good reason – it’s delicious, light, and effervescent! However, did you know that only wine that is made from grapes grown and produced within the Champagne region of France can legally be called Champagne? It’s true! As a result, other varietals of sparkling or bubbly wine have been produced over the years, and so you now have many different types to choose from.
Northern Virginia has a climate very similar to France’s. It is cold in the winter, hot in the summer, and is generally humid throughout the warmer months of the year. As a result, Northern Virginia wineries, including those within Loudoun County, can produce similar styles of wine to those that you find in France – including Champagne!
Below are our top picks for where to find the best bubbles produced in Loudoun. We’ve tried all of these and have to say that they are fabulous.
1. Stone Tower Winery’s Wild Boar Brut Cuvee - This is absolutely delicious. It's buttery, but still maintains the crispness that bruts are known for. Perfect on its own or with a meal.
2. Boneyard Winery’s Bad to the Bone Bubbles - A perfect gift for someone who likes a little rock and roll in their life! This wine is fun, fresh, and just plain fabulous. Enjoy it with oysters, cheese, or whatever your heart desires.
3. Stone Tower Winery’s Rose Cuvee - If pink is your favorite color, or if you really enjoy rose wines, then this is for you! The bottle is gorgeous and is sure to make a recipient smile.
4. Greenhill Vineyard’s Blanc de Blancs - This wine is like velvet - so smooth, yet crisp and supple. Made from Chardonnay grapes, it's classic French-style is sure to please.
You honestly can’t go wrong with any of the wines listed above. So pick one (or two…or three…) up and enjoy with someone that you love. Cheers!
